Day 25 – I am A WOMAN WHO PRAYS

“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil…And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Luke 11:1-4, 9(KJV)

This prayer, as taught by Jesus in Luke 11 gives us a structure to our prayers. This is where Jesus teaches us how to pray. It gives us a way to address the Father, and praise God for who He is and what He has done for us. It also helps us to confess our sins, ask for forgiveness and request God’s protection for us and our families. What a beautiful prayer. It is a great way to structure our thoughts and have a clear communication with our Father. Prayer is most people’s main communication channel to God. When we pray, we should also sit quietly with God and listen to what He has to communicate to us. Prayer should be a two-way conversation, rather than just us giving our wants and commands to God. We can of course ask Him our desires and speak to Him about our needs, but we also need to listen to Him and hear what He wants to talk to us about. When Jesus prayed to the Father in John 12:28 the Father spoke back to Him. This tells me we can definitely expect God to speak back to us when we pray to Him. Sometimes He speaks through His word, but sometimes He will choose to speak back to you while you pray if you give Him a chance and listen for His voice.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for giving us the recipe for a good prayer. Please help me to remember that prayer should be a two way conversation, and You also want to speak to me through my prayers. Thank you for dying on the cross so that we can have the privilege to speak to You and the Father directly. Amen.
