Day 1 – Women are crucial and foundational
Jesus was surrounded by His disciples, who walked with Him, learned from Him, and shared in His journey. Yet behind the scenes, women played a crucial and foundational role in sustaining His ministry. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna supported Jesus out of their own resources, demonstrating remarkable faith and dedication. Their quiet strength and generosity supported Him and the disciples.
It was women who were honored as the first witnesses of the resurrected Christ. This moment underscores their significance in the biblical narrative: not only supporters, but bearers of the Gospel’s most powerful truth.
How then can we think that women are not equal to men, when Jesus Himself respected women and treated them with dignity and honor? God’s plan was never to elevate men above women or to diminish women, for the word “𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘦𝘳” in Genesis does not imply inferiority.
In Genesis 1:27, God explicitly affirms that both male and female are created in His image. Each carries distinct yet complementary qualities, both essential for fulfilling His divine purpose of filling the earth with His glory. Before creating Eve, God allowed Adam to experience his own limitation; naming all the animals yet finding no suitable helper (Genesis 2:18–20). This was not to diminish Adam, but to reveal his need for relationship and partnership.
When Eve was created, Adam’s response was one of relief and joy. He recognized her as the one who completed what was lacking, a helper in their shared mission. This moment reveals God’s intentional design: men and women were created to work side by side, each bringing unique strengths and roles. Neither is superior, nor diminished. Together they form a partnership of equals, united in purpose and called to reflect God’s image in harmony.
The purpose of this devotional is to encourage women to embrace and cultivate the qualities of a godly helper: standing beside their husbands, supporting them in moments of weakness, and working together as a Spirit‑inspired team. Over the coming weeks, we will journey through Scripture and reflection to discover what it means to find your place alongside your husband, not behind him or beneath him, but beside him in unity.
Together, we will identify your unique strengths and areas for growth, learning how to use them effectively to serve, uplift, and support your spouse. As you grow in this calling, you will see how the Holy Spirit equips you to nurture your marriage, strengthen your partnership, and reflect Christ’s love in the way you live and love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, guide us to discover and embrace our God-ordained place beside our husbands as his helper. Help us to support and complement them in a way that honors and glorifies You. Please cultivate in us a spirit of humility, stewardship, and love, so that we may be the best helpers and partners our husbands need. Strengthen us through the Holy Spirit to fulfil our roles with grace and wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen. ©
