Day 5 – Peace in every situation
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16 NLT
Hastily I unpacked my handbag and repeatedly searched my pockets for the car keys. It wasn’t there! I could have lost it anywhere between 2 hospitals and 5 blocks. With the emotional and spiritual exhaustion setting in, the world felt very big at that point.
I left the girls in the safety of the parking lot and speed-walked back to the hospital, all the way searching if I might have dropped it, all the way praying that God would please clear my thoughts and bring to remembrance where I lost the keys. Then I remembered, I took it out of my handbag when taking out a brush to brush my mom’s hair. “This is so unnecessary” I remember scolding myself and my mom-brain kept thinking about our safety and how careless I’ve been. But instead of being stressed about the thought, I strangely felt peace – God giving me peace at all times and in every situation.
The puzzled look on the woman security guard’s face when she saw me again was priceless. Out of breath (again) I explained I might have forgotten my car keys in my mom’s room. She just smiled and shook her head while punching in the code on the keypad. The matron was just as amused with my story and indicated with a nod of her head I could go through. And there they were, waiting patiently for me on the hospital bed table. Grabbing my keys I took a last look at my Mom. She was so peaceful, and I knew (that “know that you know that you know” assurance) that she was not alone and that God was with her – at all times and in every situation.
Prayer: Father, thank You for teaching me that there is no situation where Your peace is not above all. That no matter what we face, You give us Your peace freely because of Your love, mercy, and grace towards us. Thank You for Your faithfulness to Your Word and that we can always stand on Your promises. Amen.
Love, Pastor Iriza
