Day 8 – The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 NLT

The Greek word used in this verse for “good” is “kalos” meaning beautiful, noble, wholesome, and good. Jesus described an altogether wonderful characteristic of Himself as the “good” shepherd.

Sheep are known to be some of the most vulnerable of animals. When described as the shepherd, Jesus is reassuring our need for Him. Not only does He take care of His flock, but the shepherd became the Lamb for our sacrifice – He took the place of His sheep.

Prayer: Father, thank You that Jesus, our good shepherd, stepped in as the Lamb of God for the ultimate sacrifice of redeeming us to You. When I go astray, thank You Jesus that You as my shepherd will leave 99 to find me. Amen.
