Day 6 – Multitudes

“Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.” Matthew 14:22 NKJV
While the apostles made their way to Bethsaida, Jesus stayed behind to send the multitude home. He took it as His responsibility to look after the multitude. Often, we drag our feet and one and I can’t leave this one behind – causing us to stand with one foot in the boat. Even the multitude was sent by Jesus, even if it was home. Sometimes you are sent home, and that’s okay too. You are sent where you are needed.
Let’s look at this from a different angle. Sometimes, we take the responsibility of caring for others on our own shoulders. If you’ve ever done some charity work in your community, you would know that the needs of others soon eclipse even your own. Whilst we are called to help those in need, the balance is to know that your needs are important too. To understand that even if you cannot be there, Jesus always is. He takes care of all: the multitudes AND YOU. So, if you are instructed to leave, do so in obedience and trust in Him.
Prayer: Father, it is not always easy to leave something behind. Especially with the uncertainty of what would happen to what we were busy with, or where we are heading. Thank You for the assurance, Jesus, that You are always there: for us, and those left behind. Your goodness, mercy, grace, and love are never-ending and our journeys always include a “moving forward”. Amen.
