Day 29 – Costumes

“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” Ephesians 6:13

It is almost that time of the year again when rehearsing for school plays trumps any other activity. It is learning songs and moves that by the time you sit on an uncomfortable plastic chair in the school hall filled beyond capacity with proud parents, grandparents, and bored siblings – you know each word off by heart. But that is not what had me nervous with every play… It was the costumes.

Or better explained, keeping my kids clean and wrinkle-free while they are over-excited about their big night. I dreaded getting them dressed, made-up, and delivered to their allocated teacher squeaky clean. They have been stars, teapots, angels, gypsies, mermaids, Minni mouse, and even a teacher. I always looked at the little costume hanging on the too-big clothes hanger and thought, “Why, oh why does it have to be white?”

The one costume I never have single doubt to dress them in is the Armour of God. My prayer is that we mommies, dress our children in the spirit with God’s armour.  May they be girded with the belt of truth to always stand firmly on God’s truth and to always speak His truth. May they always wear the shoes of peace from spreading the Good News. May they always hold up the shield of faith to quench the enemy’s fiery arrows and never take off their helmet of salvation for the protection of their thoughts and a reminder of who they are. May they always wield the sword of the Spirit responsibly and with discernment. And may we mommies, always dress them with our prayers.

Prayer: Father, I ask that You please dress our children in Your armour every day. That they may have all they need to face the sinful world and always know they are protected by You. Thank You, Lord, that You always have the best interest of our children in mind and that You love them dearly. Amen.
