Day 6 – God’s curses: Idolatry and false gods

“Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.” Deuteronomy 27:15 (KJV)

We know idolatry and worshipping false gods are sins, but did you know they can result in a curse? In the modern times we live in, idols are so much more than physical images or sculptures. Anything that we allow to take importance over the Lord and keep you from the Lord is an idol. Anything we worship more than we worship God is an idol. This leads to us being cursed.

If you have allowed anything to take priority over God in your life, ask for His forgiveness and strive to get Him back to be your priority. Idol worship is part of our human nature and that is why it is so easy to fall into that trap. It is a powerful temptation and only those filled with the Holy Spirit, saved by Jesus, actually have a chance to resist this temptation.

A new form of idol worship we see a lot of today is people idolizing their pastors. There are a lot of false pastors in the churches that don’t preach sound Biblical truth. They are more motivational speakers than they are teachers of the Word, and culture forces them to be inclusive and loving to a point where the truth of the Bible goes out the window. Beware of these false teachers and be sure that the only person you follow, is Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, I want you to be the only God I serve. Please open my eyes to be able to see where I have made an idol in my life. I want to repent from this sin and make You my first priority in life again. Thank you for Your love and grace. Amen
