Day 4 – Baggage

“But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, ‘Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light” Ephesians 5:13-4

When we are planning a road trip, the first thing I think of is what to pack! It is truly a woman’s natural response to going anywhere and we have a natural talent to pack almost everything in a suitcase – not just the necessities but the “just-in-case” goods too. But just like cramming things into a suitcase, we carry around a lot of spiritual baggage too. Somehow, the enemy convinced us that we need to carry this baggage around, because everyone has baggage, right? Identifying this weakness allowed me to see that if I do not trust God completely with my entourage of baggage, I will be heavily laden during my walk with Him.

We allow things like resentment, bitterness, unresolved issues, etc. pile up and before we know it, we have baggage filled to the brim with burdening sins. Yes, baggage is when we are burdened with sin and not willing to bring it to the Light who is Jesus Christ. Sin, guilt, and baggage were not meant for us to bear, this is what Jesus did on the cross for us. He came to be the light so we can air out our coffers and let the baggage into the light – making our yoke light and our burdens easy.

A weak woman hides her baggage in the dark, but the daughter of the King brings it to the Light!

Prayer: Father, thank You that Jesus Christ is our light and that He gives light to all who come to Him. I ask today that you will show us the weakness we carry around as baggage and help us to bring it to the Light of Christ so we can walk with a lightness in our step. Amen.
