Day 12 – Praying God’s will

Matthew 26:42 “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

Sometimes we ask for something that isn’t what God wants for us. God knows our future, He knows what must happen to fit into His perfect will. Jesus knew the purpose He had to fulfill on earth – death on the cross.

Apart from the utter merciless torture and pain that He would have to endure, He also knew that He would face a complete separation from His Father when He would bear the full punishment of mankind’s sins. The night before He was arrested to be crucified, He prayed to His Father to save Him from this fate. But He also knew that in order to be in line with the Father’s divine purpose for Him, He had to surrender His own will. So He prayed, “Your will be done.”

At the end of the day, what we might perceive to be the most suitable outcome, what we think is the right direction to take, may not be in the Father’s will. The sooner we can learn to yield our will to God’s will, the sooner we will find rest. It is not up to us to determine our path. God has laid it out already. He knows best. Will you trust Him to do His will?

Prayer: Creator God, eternal Father, before my beginning, You already had a divine plan for me. All my days were written in Your book. I want to find that plan, that purpose for my life. I have these requests, I have these desires that I want You to fulfil, Lord, but I lay them down and I ask that Your will be done in my life today. Amen.
