Day 13 – Selfishness

“The generous man [is a source of blessing and] shall be prosperous and enriched, and he who waters will himself be watered [reaping the generosity he has sown].” Proverbs 11:25

I have come to the realisation that selfishness is a symptom of fear and mistrust, it is an emotion that says that I have to keep what I have – whether knowledge, provision, time or wisdom – because if I give, my stores will be depleted. The truth is that under Kingdom principles, the opposite is true, that the more you hold onto things, the less you will have and you deplete your own stores and this is where trust comes in, trust of God and His promises. In reality, coupled with obedience, when giving, we make room for more from God, but to get to this level, we need to trust God, we need to believe that He is Who He says He is and that He not only can do what He says He can, but that He will do it and He will do it for us. Once we have reached this juncture, giving will become automatic and the joy and reward will be great and the relief from worry and stress because we want to be in control, indescribable!

Prayer: Precious Lord, You are a master at giving, there is no good thing that You will withhold from us who worship You and You are not afraid to give, Lord, because You know that Your stores cannot run out and therefore our stores cannot run out, but we need to believe! Help us to grow our faith and trust, Lord, so that we may come into the fullness of what You have for us. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
