Day 14 – Bitterness

“The heart knows its own bitterness, and no stranger shares its joy.” Proverbs 14:10

It begins with a feeling, a feeling of offence and then it turns into anger and then it turns into a grudge and then unforgiveness sets in and then the bitterness starts to creep into every fibre of our being and our world becomes dark. Bitterness is an emotion that is chained to the past, a wishing that things could be different, a waste of time and energy because the past is cast in stone and cannot change, but we have the ability, capacity and opportunity to let go of the past, to through obedience in forgiveness loosen the chains and walk into freedom and wisdom that is incomparable to anything that we held onto. We should strive to not be our own jailers for something that somebody else did…

Prayer: It is for freedom that You have set us free, Lord, giving us divine weapons of forgiveness and deliverance and being free from the past, just as You keep Yourself free from our past sins in removing them as far as the East from the West. Cultivate in us, Lord, a heart of such forgiveness and freedom, so that we might be beings of light and laughter! In Jesus’s name. Amen.
