Day 158 – Ezekiel: Theme
“He then said to me: “Son of man, go now to the house of Israel and speak my words to them.” Ezekiel 3:4 NIV
The book of Ezekiel chronicles this prophet’s life and ministry. As soon as he received his call as a prophet and commissioning as a “watchman for Israel”, Ezekiel immediately began to preach and demonstrate God’s truth, predicting the approaching siege and destruction of Jerusalem. This devastation would be God’s judgment for the people’s idolatry. Ezekiel challenged them to turn from their wicked ways. In the next section, he spoke to the surrounding nations, prophesying that God would judge them for their sins as well. The book concludes with a message of hope, as Ezekiel proclaims God’s faithfulness and foretells the future blessings for God’s people.
As you read this exciting record, observe how Ezekiel fearlessly preached the word of God to the exiled Jews in the streets of Babylon, and hear the timeless truth of God’s love and power. Think about each person’s responsibility to trust God and about the inevitability of God’s judgment against idolatry, rebellion, and indifference. Then commit to obeying God, whatever and whenever He asks.
Prayer: Father, give us a burning reverence to proclaim Your Word without any fear, just like Ezekiel did. May we be the voice of Your timeless truth of love and power to all nations and warn them about the judgment still to come against sins. As we commit to obey You, Lord, give us strength and discernment not to doubt You, but to only trust and have faith in You. Amen.
