Day 205 – Zephaniah: Theme

“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 NIV

The first chapter of Zephaniah’s prophecy is filled with terror. In the second chapter, a whisper of promise appears, “Seek the Lord…” and a few verses later, we read of a remnant of Judah who would be restored. Finally, in the third chapter, the quiet refrain grows to a crescendo as God’s salvation and deliverance for those who are faithful to Him is declared. This is true hope, grounded in the knowledge of God’s justice and in His love for his people.

As with the other books of the prophets, the message of Zephaniah is still applicable today, and we, a faithful remnant of souls who humbly worship and obey the living God, know and understand that through Jesus Christ, we do not need to fear “that terrible day of the Lord”.

With social media filled with predictions of the End Times, fear, doubt, and uncertainty of the future are ruling minds and hearts. It is our responsibility to – in kindness, humility, and love – give the truth of God’s word to a broken world. To bring hope to the broken and light to the dark.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the Word You gave to the prophets to give us warning and understanding of the end times, so we would not live in uncertainty or fear for the glorious Day of the Lord. Please give us discernment and guidance to understand the prophecies. Amen.
