Day 22 – Women in ministry

1 Timothy 2:11-14 “Women should learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result.”

Today we see more and more women preachers and the question is: Are women allowed to preach or have a ministry? While some argue that women are not allowed to preach, the Bible provides examples of women in leadership roles. For instance, Priscilla and Aquila invited Apollos to their home to explain the way of God, Philip’s daughters prophesied, and Deborah was a judge and leader of Israel. However, the Bible also emphasizes an order of creation that puts men first, and Paul instructs to maintain order in the church. According to Genesis, man was created first and has spiritual authority in his household. While both men and women are called to minister and serve, men are ordained to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church, following the order of Creation.

Prayer: Lord, help us to understand Your order of creation and the authority You ordained. Help us as Women to understand our place in Your creation. Thank You for guiding us to the truth and that we could explain this in our Titus 2 manual. As a mother, wife and sister let us always remember that we have to recognise and respect the authority of our fathers and husbands and above all You are first. Amen.
