Day 2 – Adopted
Ephesians 1:5 (NKJV) – “having predestined us to ADOPTION* as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,” *Capitals added for emphasis.
Firstly, I know all too well how often it is hard to read about all the “sons” in the Bible and then apply it to yourself as a woman. So in this instance, I want you to re-read this verse and replace the word “sons” with “daughters”.
Reading it like that makes it a bit easier to relate to, doesn’t it? I don’t know what your relationship with your parents, especially your father, is like. Many people cannot relate to the idea of adoption. Allow me to share a story of a friend of mine to help shed some light on this.
I am very privileged to have an amazing friend who is confident and inspirational. She has amazing parents who love her intensely and are not afraid to proclaim it to anyone. But what many people don’t know, at least not upon first meeting, is that she was adopted. My friend knows this fact. She has known it for a long time. Her parents prayed very long and hard for their child, and the Lord granted them their daughter through adoption. She is their child. They are her parents. They love her with an intense and fierce love that many people take for granted. Others might find this type of love frustrating, especially when they are becoming their own person. And, sadly, many who grow up with or without their biological parents never know this love. Whenever I look at this dear friend of mine and the relationship she has with her parents it helps me understand what this Godly adoption means. God has such an intense love for each of us. He predestined that we would be adopted because not everyone can be born directly into the bloodline of Jesus. Yet, He still ensured that it is through the blood of Jesus that we can become a part of the family. And He loves us all equally. And fiercely. We ARE His children.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for adopting me into Your eternal family. This makes me your child, your real child. Thank you that I can rest in the fact that my Father always looks out for me and protects me because of the fiercely intense love he has for me. Amen.
