Day 3 – Heir

Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV) – “In Him also we have obtained an INHERITANCE*, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,” *Capitals added for emphasis.

In this verse, two things stand out. We will look at these two things over the next two days.

The first thing that stands out here is that you have an inheritance. YOU ARE AN HEIR of the Kingdom of heaven. Take a moment and let that sink in. Say to yourself: “I am an heir of God.”.

As a child of God, you share in the inheritance of the Kingdom. Now we all know that usually, people inherit after someone dies. Usually, the person that you inherit from is the one who died. In this case, however, it works a little differently. You have to die to inherit in the Kingdom. I know that sounds very strange, but the important thing here is that you must truly and fully accept the fact that you are now a part of the family of God. To do that, the you that has lived this life so far needs to be put to rest so that old habits cannot come back and tempt you into the life you used to have.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for this glorious inheritance. Lord help me to lay down all my past habits that often keep me from the inheritance you have for me. Help me to renew thoughts and habits to glorify You in all I do. Help me to invite others into this Kingdom inheritance by showing them the abundance of love that can be experienced by fully accepting my adoption through Jesus Christ. Amen.
