Day 241 – Luke: Theme
“But why did you need to search?’ he asked. ‘Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they didn’t understand what he meant.” Luke 2:49-50 NLT
Luke’s story begins with an angel appearing to Zechariah and then to Mary, announcing the good news of the upcoming birth of their sons. From Zechariah and Elizabeth would come John the Baptist, who would prepare the way for Christ. And Mary would conceive a child by the Holy Spirit and bear Jesus, the Son of God. Eight days after Jesus’ birth, He was circumcised and then dedicated to God in the Temple, where Simeon and Anna confirmed His identity as the Savior, the Messiah.
Luke gives us a glimpse of Jesus at the age of about 12, discussing theology with the Jewish teacher of the law at the Temple. Eighteen years later, He went to John to be baptized and entered the wilderness before beginning His public ministry.
Jesus’ mission would take Him to Jerusalem, where He would be rejected, tried, and crucified. Luke’s gospel does not end in sadness; however, it concludes with the thrilling account of Jesus’ resurrection for the dead, His appearance to the disciples, and His promise to send the Holy Spirit.
Read Luke’s beautifully written and accurate account of the life of Jesus, then praise God for sending the Savior: our risen and triumphant King, for all people.
Prayer: Father, may we, like Jesus, know that we must be in our Father’s house. As we study Luke, open our hearts to see Jesus as the Savior of the world and all the prophecies confirming that He is truly God. Amen.
