Day 3 – Noahic Covenant

“Then God said, ‘I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth.” Genesis 9:12-13

One of my favorite natural phenomena is the rainbow. There is nothing more beautiful to me than to spot a rainbow and be reminded of the power and covenant God made with Noah and humanity thousands of years ago. The Greatest Scientist gave a symbol of His promise to stand proud throughout the ages of this world. He is the Promise Keeper from the start of creation up until this present moment where you are holding on to a promise from God and beyond stretching to eternity.

With His blessing over Noah and his sons, God told them to replenish the earth and through the Noahic covenant, God pledged that He will preserve the stability of nature –stability that will allow His creation and people to flourish which will provide an arena for Him to enter history and bring salvation to all.

To me, the beauty of the Noahic covenant is that though God wanted to wipe humanity from the face of the earth because of the extent of human wickedness; he saw one righteous man and his family. Genesis 6:5(b) says: “So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke His heart.” God had a plan, and even with a broken heart chose to spare humanity through Noah. When looking at the world around us today, one can say ‘it is like in the days of Noah’. Wicked things have infiltrated our lives and homes wreaking havoc. Suddenly, I understand God’s, broken heart. But more than that, I am grateful for the plan of salvation that came through Jesus Christ – like the promised rainbow breaking through the clouds after a dark storm. An unconditional promise of God’s love for us.

Prayer: Father, thank You that I can look at a rainbow and be reminded of this beautiful covenant you made with Noah so many years ago. I am sorry for the times I have broken Your heart, Lord. Please forgive me. Teach me and guide me to seek You and righteous living above all else. Thank You for loving me. Amen.

“By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them.
