Day 5 – Patience

Patience is not something that comes naturally to us – it doesn’t for me. In a fast passed world, patience seems rather foreign to getting things done.

I have a special needs child and patience is definitely something the gift of being her Mommy has cultivated in me.

The dictionary says patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. Paul reminds us in 1 Timothy 6:11 that as children of God, we should pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. The spiritual fruit of patience is the ability to calmly approach people and situations, to bear patiently, and to be long-suffering in a trial.

Beyond patience with people, patience is also the ability to trust God and wait for His answer and our breakthrough when things seem hopeless. God is infinitely patient with us. May we live to the glory of God by living out 2 Corinthians 6:6: “We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.”

Prayer: Father, thank you for your patience with me. I don’t deserve it and I stand in awe of your loving nudges beckoning me forward and cheering me on; even when I fail. Will you perfect your patience in me so that I can express this exceptional fruit in all I say and do? In my doing and my waiting, in my tasks and my resting – I declare my trust in You. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
