Day 6 – Kindness

And we shall be known by our fruits, Jesus said. How precious the fruit of Kindness. When the world rejects, judges, criticizes, and becomes angry and hostile, there are some – the Children of God who are kind.

The fruit of kindness is unnatural to the world. The ability to easily forgive, to give another chance, to respond gently when hurt, to retaliate with goodness, and to love even what’s unlovely. Kindness is the ability to speak a soft word in return for a harsh one, the ability to return good for evil, the ability to care when no one else does and to help another to help carry their burden.

Kindness is to care for the plight of another when the world turns its back. Kindness is compassion. I think of the story of the good Samaritan. That was kindness in action. Compassion for the trial of another, the loving sacrifice of time and resources to lift the burden of another. The kindness that cared about another and not just self. What joy we experience when we are kind, friendly, generous, and considerate; and I believe this joy is from the Holy Spirit rejoicing in the fruit of kindness blooming in us.

“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great.” “So, whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude”. Luke 6:35

Prayer: Jesus, Your kindness is something I cherish beyond words. When I feel inadequate or guilty, or when I have failed You… You still embrace me in your loving arms and surround me with your compassion. I want to be like You Lord! I ask that You will express the fruit of kindness in me in a brand new way so that my compassion and generosity will truly make a difference to others. In Your precious Name. Amen.
