Day 3 – Why keep a journal?

“Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.” Revelation 3:3 NIV
Journaling should not be seen as a past-time or arts and crafts session. It’s valuable time spent with God whilst studying His Word. When John received these words from Heaven “Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent.”, it was for us too. None of us, the daughters of the King, would want to be like the five unprepared virgins for the glorious day of Jesus’s return. Are you ready, my dear sister, to take up the pen and keep the Word of God which He shares with you?
I find it very difficult to memorize and remember scripture word for word. I have found writing it down, reading it frequently, and mapping the verse out brings a deeper understanding of the meaning and recalling it easier because I can connect it to something I wrote down. I giggled to myself when I thought of John starting to “journal” this beautiful vision he was chosen to be part of called Revelation. How many times did He reread, rewrite, and revisited the encounter to ensure that each living Word was perfectly placed for us to enjoy it today?
Journaling helps to achieve spiritual goals, keep spiritual disciplines, track your progress and spiritual growth, strengthen memory, inspire creativity, help to discover your identity in Christ and improve a sense of gratitude just to name a few. It is “me time” with Jesus just to sit at the Word’s feet and drink in the wisdom He teaches.
Prayer: Father, create a hunger in us to become spiritual scribes to note Your Words, promises, corrections, and encouragement to add fuel to our lamps and to be ready for Jesus. May this process of journaling aid us in remembrance and recalling of Your Word. Amen.
Tip: Still not sure how you want to go about this journey? In the next few days, we will look at different types of journaling and share some freebies you can download.
