Day 3 – Dying to yourself
Dying to yourself
“A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw away stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to keep silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:3-8 (AMP)
Seasons occur due to the earth’s changing relationship with the sun and as Holy Spirit revealed to me; our seasons can also be linked to relationships. Relationships play an important role in our lives, the relationship with self and God is the most important. Most of the time we can trace back a season change to a change in a relationship.
Reflecting on my own life I could almost trace back my biggest challenges to a relationship, the hardest times had something to do with someone or myself. The pruning and plucking would always be with my own character, my relationship with God, or my point of view and feelings regarding others.
Ecclesiastes 3:3-8 gives much insight into our relationships and even more confirms that there is also a time of dying to yourself. During our winter season, we should allow the self to die and allow God to come and restore and change us from the inside out.
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 ESV
Prayer: Holy Spirit please reveal the relationships that need pruning and help us to trust God in these hard moments as we peruse and trust His will for our lives. Amen
