Day 2 – Your book
“This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.” Jeremiah 30:2 NIV
Two years ago, when my husband asked me what I wanted for a gift, I pulled him by the arm into the nearest stationery store and pointed at a Day-a-page diary. With a raised eyebrow he asked me if I am sure. “I am sure” I nodded. He tried to convince me to take some of the more expensive diaries, but I had my heart set on a plain, guava-pink day-a-page diary. I could not contain my excitement when we got home. I wanted to start immediately – but patiently waited for the few days to fly off the calendar and greet the 1st of January with my pen in hand.
I had multiple journals in the past: in my Bible study bag, on the bookshelves, on my pedestal, and even in the kitchen. But I would use a journal for a specific theme and not fill all the pages as it was intended to be. And most of the time I would forget in which journal I wrote something specific.
Choosing a book is important because those pages will become the reflection of what you learn, your prayers and your emotions poured out to God. Some Bibles are journal specific with beautiful imagery you can colour and space to write or draw your thoughts. Some prefer not to colour in their Bibles and make pages they insert between the pages of their Bibles. Others, like myself, keep a journal allowing you an open plan of creativity and lots of space to write. The reason I chose the diary was to write something every day and I knew it would irritate me to skip a day, getting me into the habit of journaling.
I thank God for giving the Patriarchs, Prophets, and Apostles the command to meticulously write His words down as He did to Jeremiah. But it’s also relevant to us today.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the command to each of us to write down Your Word. I know if I do not, I do forget and am grateful when I page back in my journals for the remembrance of Your Love, promises, and corrections. I pray that You will guide Your daughters to choose a book with care and guidance in which they will enjoy to capture their time spent with You. Amen.
Tip: Journals available have lined, blank, dotted, or grid pages to assist with drawing and writing. Diaries work well too as well as the Croxley black, hardcover books. Start with writing prayers, scripture received for that day, Bible study, quotes from books, ideas, dreams, etc.
