Day 109 – Nehemiah: Character sketch of Nehemiah

“Remember this good deed, O my God, and do not forget all that I have faithfully done for the Temple of my God and its services.” Nehemiah 13:14 NLT

God is in the business of working through his people to accomplish seemingly impossible tasks. He shapes people with personality, characteristics, experiences, and training that prepare them for his purposes, and usually, those people have no idea what God has in store for the journey.

You may not have Nehemiah’s unique abilities or feel that you are in a position where you can do anything great for God, but there are at least two ways you can become useful for God to accomplish His will. First, be a person who talks with God. And second, a person who walks with God. Put what you learn from His Word into action, like Nehemiah.

Strengths and accomplishments

Nehemiah was a man of character, persistence, and prayer. He was known as a brilliant planner, organiser, and motivator as he led the people to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem in 52 days. As a political leader, he led the nation to religious reform and spiritual awakening. He was calm in the face of opposition and capable of being bluntly honest with the nation when they sinned.

Life lessons from Nehemiah’s life

The first step into any venture is to pray because people under God’s direction can accomplish seemingly impossible tasks.

Prayer: Father, may we be known as someone who talks and walks with You and uses Your Word for guidance and action in what You want us to accomplish. Amen.
