Day 108 – Nehemiah: Reforming the people

“Then Ezra praised the Lord, the great God, and all the people chanted, “Amen! Amen!” as they lifted their hands. Then they bowed down and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.” Nehemiah 8:6 NLT
Reading Nehemiah 8:1 to Nehemiah 13:31
Upon Nehemiah’s arrival in Jerusalem, he finds more than just a broken wall; he finds broken lives. In response, he gathers the people together to hear Ezra read God’s law. The nation repented and promised to change their lives by obeying God’s words.
Nehemiah and Ezra were very different people, yet God used them both to lead the nation. God has a place for you in His work, even if you’re different from most other people.
No matter where we live, falling back into sinful habits is an ever-present danger. We must constantly check our behaviour against God’s standards in the Bible so that we do not slide back into sinful ways of living.
Prayer: Father, thank You for bringing Your nation back to their home and restoring and rebuilding not just the physical city, but also their hearts, lives, and communities. Thank You for making us individually and uniquely in Your image to do different things in Your Kingdom and to reach the nations. Amen.
