Day 1 – Adam and Jesus Contrasted

“But there is a big difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:15

Paul dedicated a whole section in Romans 5 to explain the contrast between Adam and Christ. It is important to remember that “Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come.” (verse 14b). See, Adam is symbolic of our sinful human nature. He explicitly disobeyed God’s command which resulted in death (spiritual and physical). But because he is a representation of Christ, we learn a lot from Adam pointing to Christ Jesus. “Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.” (verse 18)

The spin-off from Adam’s disobedience caused a division between God and mankind because of sin. Jesus’s sacrifice restored this by bringing righteousness to all who believe in Him, restoring our relationship with God for eternity.
