Day 9 – Spiritual Blessings – Adopted

“having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,” Ephesians 1:5
Not only has God blessed us by choosing us to be holy through Jesus Christ, but he emphasises the blessing with a second one through the term of adoption. He is granting us full status as his children and all its benefits and blessings.
Adoption, as we understand it today, derives from ancient Roman laws where the procedure included the removal of all rights and responsibilities of the biological parents, which are then transferred to the adoptive parents. Hebrew customs contradicted this where the adoptive parents do not entirely replace the role of the biological parents but enhance the upbringing and education in a higher responsibility role. When we come to the Father through the adoption processes of salvation, He does not replace our biological parents but becomes the higher authority figure looking after our wellbeing. When we believe the gospel, we receive full access to Him and can call Him Father, and He calls us his children—such a beautiful, intended relationship with our Creator.
Prayer: Father, thank You that we can call You that through adoption through Jesus Christ. Giving Your Only Son as a sacrifice to gain us as Your children is a blessing we are undeserving of but received through Your love. Thank You, our Father, that we may be Your children and we can love You with all our hearts. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
