Day 1 – The Challenge
“It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
I often admire the colorful, creative Bible Journaling pages as I scroll through social media feeds. Though I wanted to whet my creative skills and venture through these pages, I honestly must admit I do not have the luxury of time. Being a wife, mom, with a full-time career, and a pastor of a rapidly growing ministry, I had to ask God to help me divide my time so as not to skimp on areas. And though I was reading and studying the Bible, I still had this strong, unexplainable feeling to do something creative with my studies. (This is the graphic artist in me…)
Bible journaling is simply about reading your Bible devotionally and taking time to respond to the insights you receive. For many, this means spending time exercising their creativity by responding to God’s Word artistically. Timothy says it well, “It (God’s Word) will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness.” There is something powerful to write down what you read or are busy studying in the Word. It can be a chapter or topic related, or just something relevant for you – a special message from your Father in Heaven. I found writing these down, focused my attention on the message God is giving me, guiding me deeper.
But you do not need to be an artistic person to keep a journal. Anyone can do it, and this is the reason for this devotional. I challenge you to start journaling with me. Maybe you are seasoned in Bible Journaling or it might be still a bit daunting and you have no idea where to start. Throughout this devotional, I will post tips and thoughts about different methods and types of journaling. I strongly suggest you get a journal, diary, or book you feel comfortable popping in your handbag and carry with you wherever you go. My journal is a permanent companion so I can scribble something down the moment it happens or thoughts and ideas that pop up.
Prayer: Father, as we venture into this devotional my prayer is that Your Word enrich and empower you and to lead you deeper into a path of godliness. To fulfill this challenge like an assignment given by You Lord, to draw us closer to what You want to share with each of us. Amen.
