Day 3 – Flashlights in the dark

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my paths.” Psalm 119:105

We are privileged to love two little blond boys like our own. (They are family friends’ children). Over the holidays they visited, and my husband pitched a tent for them in the living room. All the lights in the house had to be switched off because there are no lights when one camps. (This was sternly explained to me with serious little faces!) But then it was bathroom time…

Hubby gave each of them a small flashlight to navigate their way to the bathroom and back and what was supposed to be 1 trip, became several adventures with the flashlight halos in the dark house. We searched for Lego’s (which weren’t lost), the dog (sleeping soundly in her spot), and investigated “noises” that came from dark corners… I was amazed at how something so small, giving so little light, can be the one thing they follow in front of their feet.

Just the assurance of light being right there when they need it made me think of the assurance I have by knowing God’s Word is my halo of light whenever I need it – even if it is not dark. My prayer is that our children hold God’s Word with them like these little flashlights and follow the Light which is Jesus in all their paths.

Prayer: Father, I pray that Your Word will never depart from our children and that it will be light to their feet and all their paths. May they never stumble in the darkness and always follow Jesus, the Light of this world. Thank You, Lord, that Your countenance shines on the children of this world and I ask that hope in Jesus be the halo of light they can hold on to. Amen.
