Day 4 – Resisting the enemy

“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (ESV)
If only we can teach our children to resist the devil like they resist vegetables… When my youngest reached the age to start eating solid foods, I had this fairy tale idea of how picture-perfect her dinner will be – like the “happy mommy and baby” articles in the baby magazines I have read. A few minutes later…
she was covered in butternut, I was covered in butternut, and I soon learned that white Colgate toothpaste removes butternut stains from a carpet.
Children have a naturally high resistance to anything foreign to them – from butternut to strangers. It’s in these vulnerable growing years they learn to trust and submit. And us mommies, have the responsibility to teach them what true submission is about, that when they grow older, they would instinctively know their submission to God is greater than acceptance of the world. It will be easier for them to resist the devil knowing they have a Father in Heaven who has got their backs.
My prayer is that our children would understand what submitting to God truly looks like and through submitting and trusting Him, the natural ability of resistance against the devil kicks in (like eating butternut for the first time) and making sure he flees in the Name of Jesus.
Prayer: Father, thank You that we can pray for our children to be humble before You and submit to You and none other. When they are being attacked by the devil through all his schemes, they can easily resist him, and he will flee from them. Hone in on their hearts, Lord, so they will never resist submission to You but trust You wholeheartedly in the battles they face. Amen.
