Day 20 – You know the enemies

“For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain.” Psalm 139:20 NKJV

It’s undeniable that David was God’s partisan. He wanted to be on God’s side no matter what and therefore allowed himself to hate those who hated God. These aren’t mere words from a poet. It reflects a boy warrior who stood facing a giant because he dared to defy the army of the living God. “David asked the soldiers standing nearby, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:26 NLT

From a young age, David understood that the enemies of the Lord were his too and went against a spirit evident in our day and age: the idea that we can love God without hating evil and that evil has a right to be loved too.

Beloved, evil is evil and will never intend to do good no matter how much the world (through cinema, music, WOKE movements, and certain doctrines) tries to convince us. We can never claim to love the living God if we cling to notions of “that’s evil, but it’s okay.”

Let’s pray: Father, we are bombarded with tainted knowledge that there is good in evil and evil in good. But we, as Your children through the sacrifice of Jesus, know that You are Good. Show us the evil of this world so we can, like David, be Your partisan. Amen.
