Day 21 – You know my moral choices

“Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?” Psalm 139:21 NKJV
Do we hate for the right reasons? I mean, do we hate the person or the spirit behind them? Do we hate the deed instead of the sin? Do we hate certain individuals more than we hate the enemy? These are all moral questions that we, called children of God, must face when reading this verse.
I think this is why we sometimes find it difficult to forgive people who wronged us because we hate for the wrong reason. Paul mentions in his letter to Ephesians, “For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (6:12 ESV)
As we grow in our spiritual walk with God, we become mature in our thoughts and emotions to understand that hatred should be directed at those forces rising up against God. They promote sin, idolatry, and unrighteous living – encompassing all that is loathsome to God. And what is against God, should be against you too and being strong enough to be hated by God, should be hated by you too.
Let’s pray: Father, thank You for creating me with a moral compass and that I can grow in spiritual and emotional maturity to understand what hate is and where to direct it. When there is hatred growing in my heart towards people, please point it out to me so I can capture it in the Name of Jesus and direct it towards the enemy of my Father. Amen.
