Day 88 – 2 Kings: Surviving Kingdom

“They also took away the pots, the shovels, the trimmers, the spoons, and all the bronze utensils with which the priest ministered.” 2 Kings 25:14 NLT

Reading 2 Kings 18:1 to 2 Kings 25:30

The northern was destroyed and taken captive by the Assyrians and the prophets were predicting the same fate for Judah. What more could cause the nation to repent? Kings Hezekiah and Josiah were able the stem the tide of evil. They both repaired the Temple and gathered the people for Passover. Josiah eradicated idolatry from the land.

The moment these God-fearing kings were gone, the people returned to living their own way instead of God’s way and God allowed the Babylonians to capture Judah and destroy their land and His Temple. Of a once mighty nation, only remnants remained in foreign lands and barely surviving.

Prayer: Father, thank You for showing us Your power through what You did with Israel who turned from You and lived in disobedience. To us it seemed cruel, but we know You are a good God and even through these acts, You taught them of Your love and mercy. Allow us, Lord, to learn from the difficult circumstances we sometimes need to go through. May we see Your love and mercy and repent from what You show us and go through these seasons with Your Grace. Amen.
