Dear Thoughts… Day 3

Pineapples
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NKJV
Lysa TerKeurst (one of my favourite authors) wrote once about pineapples. She really loved the fruit but would buy it already cut or canned because the exterior of the fruit was a bit daunting, and she did not know how to prepare it. One day she was visiting a friend who decided to make them a fruit platter. Out came the pineapple.
With a few skilled slices the beautiful, juicy yellow flesh was lying on the chopping board. That day, Lysa learned how to peel a pineapple. I learned that when you do not know how to do something, it shouldn’t keep you from learning how to do it.
It’s the same with our thoughts. We allow our thoughts to run rampant because we are unsure how to deal with them. They are daunting at times – influencing our attitude and leaving us with a feeling of unhappiness in our lives and circumstances.
Throughout the Bible, God’s Word teaches us how to deal with our thoughts. At first – when we try something new from scripture – we are not sure if we are doing it right. Like peeling a pineapple. But as you try it more often, you end up doing it without thinking. Today’s scripture teaches us to bring EVERY thought into the captivity to the obedience of Christ. Just as we are obedient to Him, so our thoughts should be too.
Dear Thoughts… Today I am learning to peel the pineapple of my negative thoughts. When I have a negative thought, I will capture it and bring it to the obedience of Christ Jesus. Negative thoughts, I herewith take you captive and ask Jesus to give me the Truth of the Word to bring it to obedience. I believe for every negative thought there is a positive confession from God’s Word.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us instructions from Your Word on how to deal with our negative thoughts. Holy Spirit please guide us through the process of capturing our negative thoughts and bringing them to the obedience of Jesus Christ. Amen.
