Designer Idols – Day 9
Molech
“Then the king defiled the altar of Tophet in the valley of Ben-Hinnom, so no one could ever again use it to sacrifice a son or daughter in the fire as an offering to Molech.” 2 Kings 23:10 NLT
The national god of the Ammonites meaning king. Probably the most ruthless deity who demanded child sacrifice. An abdominal practice in which people sought to appease the heathen god’s anger and seek his benefit by offering their children by fire. The more important the object of sacrifice, the more devout the person giving it up is.
Tophet is derived from the word Toph, a drum – because of drums being beaten at the burning of the children so that their shrieks might not be heard. Just like me, you might think how horrible this was! I must admit, I found it really difficult to research and write this.
Sadly, child sacrifice is not as ancient as the rituals they followed. The burning altars were exchanged with furnaces of a different kind: abortions, molestation, and abuse. Just a few of the horrors against children we find today. Children being used (sacrificed) against their will to the pleasure of someone else. Who would have thought that this ancient heathen deity would so plainly rear his head in our modern-day?
“O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouths of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger” Psalm 8:1-2 NKJV
“From the mouths of babes.” A popular saying, but one the enemy tries with all his might to quiet. Daily his mission is to eliminate the next generation, the children – our heritage from God. Let us pray for the children to be taken of these altars and dedicated to God for a Godly generation who will fear, love, and worship Him for the one He is, YWHW.
Prayer: Father, today we pray for all the children of this world. They are a heritage from You and the next generation for Your glory. I know this breaks your heart thousand times more than mine. Father, please protect them. Rescue them from these modern sacrificial altars and hold them close to Your loving, Father’s heart. Amen.
