Day 119 – The harvest is ready
Study Luke 10:1-3
“Then He said to them, ‘The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” Luke 10:2
As Jesus continued His journey toward Jerusalem, He appointed seventy disciples and sent them ahead of Him into the towns He planned to visit. These were not part of the Twelve Apostles, yet they were entrusted with an important assignment. Their calling reminds us that God’s work is not reserved for a select few. Every believer has a place in His kingdom and a role to play in His mission.
Jesus sent them two by two. Ministry was never intended to be a solitary pursuit. They would encourage one another, strengthen one another, and stand together in difficult situations. As they travelled, they were preparing hearts for the arrival of Jesus Himself.
Looking at the crowds, Jesus saw something different from what others saw. He did not see interruptions or inconveniences. He saw a harvest field ready to be gathered. The need was urgent, but the workers were few. Before sending the disciples out, Jesus instructed them to pray. Yet almost immediately after commanding them to pray for workers, He sent them. God often answers such prayers by calling the people who pray.
The harvest is still plentiful today. All around us are people searching for hope, truth, forgiveness, and purpose. The challenge is not a lack of opportunity but a lack of willing laborers. Perhaps the Lord is calling you to be part of the answer to your own prayers.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, open my eyes to the harvest around me. Give me compassion for those who need You and a willing heart to go wherever You send me. Amen. ©
