Day 126 – Psalms: Book 2

“Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skilful poet.” Psalm 45:1 NLT

Reading Psalm 42 to Psalm 72

This collection of Psalms, mostly written by David and the descendants of Korah, corresponds with the book of Exodus. Just as Exodus sketches the nation of Israel, many of these Psalms describe the nation as ruined and then recovered. As God rescued His chosen nation, He also rescues us, His chosen children. We do not have to work out solutions first; we can go directly to God with our problems and ask for His divine help.

These Palms compiled in Book 2 include a prayer for rescue, a call to worship, a confession of sin, an encouragement to trust God, a Psalm for those hurt by friends, a prayer for those who have been slandered, and a missionary Psalm. These can help us retain a sense of wonder in our worship.

Prayer: Father, the beautiful Psalms in Your Word stir my heart and may I too, like the descendants of Korah, recite them to You, for You created our tongues to be like the pen of a skilful poet to worship and bring glory to You. Amen.
