Day 139 – Ecclesiastes: Solomon’s practical counsel
“Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride.” Ecclesiastes 7:8 NLT
Reading Ecclesiastes 6:1 to Ecclesiastes 8:17
From chapter 6, Solomon demonstrates that having the right attitude towards God can help us cope with present injustices. Prosperity is not always beneficial, and adversity is not always detrimental. However, God is always good; if we follow His guidance, we will be enriched with a life filled with contentment and joy. His practical counsel helps us not only to understand life better but also to grasp how God’s Word intertwines with our existence.
In moments when we allow our thoughts to reflect on our lives and the important aspects of life, we realise that nothing is more crucial than finishing strong in this race of life. We might not know what the end of our lives will be like, but we do know what the end of the world will entail, and living a life with eternal roots should inspire us as we look forward to the end.
Prayer: Father, often we are concerned or afraid of what we leave behind, but we forget the eternal promise of life. Thank You for providing us with Solomon’s perspective and life wisdom to reflect upon as we deepen our growth. Amen.
