Day 146 – Isaiah: Words of Judgment

“And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the wasteland.” Isaiah 35:5-6 NLT

Reading Isaiah 1:1 to Isaiah 39:8

God is highly exalted above all his creatures. His moral perfection stans in contrast to evil people and nations. God is perfect and sinless in all his motives and actions, so He is in perfect control of His power, judgment, love, and mercy. Because God is without sin, He alone could provide a way of redemption and forgiveness for our sins through the promised and prophesied Messiah – Jesus Christ. His holy nature is our standard for morality. It is only fitting that we regard Him as supreme in power and moral perfection.

Because God’s judgment is coming, we needed a Saviour. No person or nation can be saved without Him. Christ’s perfect sacrifice for our sins is foretold and portrayed firstly in Isaiah. We cannot save ourselves; therefore, all who trust God can be freed from their sin and restored in Him as we turn from our sin and come to repentance. Salvation is from God alone; no amount of good works can ever earn it.

Prayer: Father, it is frightening to read the prophecies of judgment and to know that Your people still ignored what Your servant said. How easily do we dismiss it today, as most of us see the Old Testament as merely “history”. I pray that You will reveal to us the depth of these prophecies and their significance in our lives today. Amen.
