The Sabbath, as part of creation and the commandments, appears to be an Old Testament concept. But as we seen, Jesus made it part of His life to honor the Sabbath and to teach us to do it too, according to Godโs heart and not man-made regulations. In fact, the Sabbath is mentioned more in the New Testament than in the Torah. Keeping in mind that the New Testament only makes up about a third of the whole Bible, it appears in higher proportions than the entire Old Testament.
God knew, from the day that He blessed this holy day of rest, that many people would not understand the desire to honour His rest day, which is why he warned us not to let their opinion sway us and not to be influenced through interpretations of what you should or should not do. Honouring the Sabbath should be such a foundational part of our lifestyle, taught through Scripture. As the Body of Christ, our beliefs on the Sabbath should be unified with the Messiahโs.
Prayer: Father, thank You for continuously reminding us of the importance of the Sabbath through the Old Testament, the teachings of Jesus, and through the New Testament. That Your command still stands as true and pure as the day You instated it. Help us to understand the importance and to make it part of our lifestyle. Amen.
