Day 197 – Micah: Climate of the times

He has shown all you people what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 NIV

Micah served as a prophet to Judah from around 742 to 687 BC. During this time, King Ahaz set up pagan idols in the Temple and finally nailed the Temple doors shut. When Hezekiah became king, the nation began a slow road to recovery and economic strength, and one can assume that King Hezekiah probably heeded many of Micah’s (and other prophets’) warnings. Micah’s main message was that both the northern and southern kingdoms would fall. This was God’s discipline upon the people, showing how much He cared for them.

Micah’s message application for us today is to teach us that to choose to live our lives apart from God is making a commitment to sin, leading to judgment and death. God alone shows us the way to eternal peace, and His discipline keeps us on the right path.

Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us the prophets to show us the way to You and to understand the implications of sin in our lives. Thank You that eternal peace comes from the Peace giver who gave His life so we may spend eternity in Your presence. Amen.
