Day 15 – Apple
(Malus pumila)
“Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, So is my beloved among the sons. I sat down in his shade with great delight, And his fruit was sweet to my taste.” Song of Solomon 2:3 NKJV
It takes only a rudimentary perusal of the Bible to notice the apple is a golden threaded theme. Israel is called the apple of God’s eye in Zechariah 2:7-8. God wants His Law to be the apple of our eye (Proverbs 7:2), and in Proverbs 25:11 we learn “words fitly spoken are like apples of gold.”
The symbolism of the apple is clearly represented in the love songs captured in Song of Solomon – the Beloved, Christ Jesus. It is a metaphor describing the Bridegroom as the Bride express His uniqueness among others. With great joy she chooses to sit under His shadow (protection and refreshment) and tasted and knows that He is good (Psalm 34:8)
The symbolic thread weaves together Israel (God’s beloved nation), the Law God has written in our hearts protecting us because He loves us and His words of life leaving our lips. We are saturated with His relentless love; He chose us first to fall in love with Him and invited us in covenant to rest under the apple tree who is our Beloved.
Prayer: Father, thank You that through the apple tree we can experience Your amazing love for us through our beloved Bridegroom. May we choose to sit under the shadow of His protection and joyfully taste and know that He is Good. Thank You Jesus that You chose us as Your bride and that You are relentlessly courting us through Your Word. Amen.
