Day 14 – Offering

“Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.” Deuteronomy 16:17

Offerings are a bit more nuanced than tithing. When tithing is giving a tenth, offerings are a financial contribution you donate to a church, ministry, or anywhere you feel led by the Holy Spirit to do so. Giving encourages a grateful and generous spirit and can help steer us away from the traps of greed and discontent. When you make the choice to live for God, one of the big spiritual disciplines we’re called to be faithful is with our finances.

Always remember that tithing or offering is not for God’s benefit – He doesn’t need our coins – it is meant for our benefit because sacrificing a portion of your income or sharing what you have reminds us to rely on God to meet our own needs and make us more aware of the need around us.

Prayer: Father, just as we are prepared to offer our lives to you, teach us the value of offering financially into the Kingdom too. King David said You search our hearts, and I pray there are no greed and discontent found, but rather generosity and cheerfulness when it comes to giving. Amen.
