Day 8 – Ashes turned to boils and sores

God vs Isis

Exodus 9:8-9 “ And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and let Moses throw them in the air in the sight of Pharaoh. It shall become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and become boils breaking out in sores on man and beast throughout all the land of Egypt:

When I was young, I remember feeling mistreated by my father. He suddenly sent me to my room without warning, and I was frustrated. I asked him why I was being punished, and he said it was because I had repeatedly ignored his requests for me to clean the kitchen. Similarly, when Pharaoh repeatedly ignored God, God’s judgement became more personal and affected him on a deeper level. God changed his strategy and instructed Moses to throw ashes into the air in the presence of Pharaoh. The dust settled on people and animals, causing painful boils and sores.

The Israelites were safeguarded by God during the plague, setting them apart from the Egyptians. The battle’s dynamics changed when the magicians were unable to confront Moses or Pharaoh due to the boils. Egyptian culture values cleanliness, as evidenced by men shaving their hair, but now they are deemed unclean and unable to perform rituals for their gods and goddesses.

Isis the Egyptian goddess of medicine and peace was known to be the protector of kings. Moses and Aaron were the only ones standing in front of Pharaoh who was outnumbered, and Isis was defeated. God is still standing, and the gods are nowhere to be seen. Let this situation be a reminder that God will never forsake you and He will always stand by you.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the gifts of the spirit that makes us less of ourselves and more of You. Amen
