Day 9 – Hail in the form of fire

God vs Nut

Exodus 9:19 “Now therefore send, get your livestock and all that you have in the field into safe shelter, for every man and beast that is in the field and is not brought home will die when the hail falls on them”.

In ancient times, Pharaoh, with his arrogant demeanour, was willing to sacrifice his own people to fulfil his desires. However, God warned him of the impending destruction that would befall Egypt. Thankfully, God showed mercy and altered His plan, allowing a division among the Egyptians. Those who converted to the Lord and followed His commands were spared, along with their livestock. These obedient people of Egypt were able to save themselves from harm. “The Lord sent thunder and hail and fire ran down to the earth” Exodus 9:24.

In Egyptian mythology, Nut was the goddess of the sky and heavenly bodies. She was also a symbol of protection for the dead as they entered the afterlife. However, even Nut could not protect Egypt from the calamity of hail and fire that rained down from above. This disaster caused major damage to flax and barley fields, which were used for making clothing and beverages. Despite this, the Egyptians were fortunate to still have wheat, which remained their main food supply. Meanwhile, the Israelites in Goshen were shielded from the hail and fire and remained unharmed.

After Pharaoh’s defeat, he spoke with Moses and Aaron and admitted to his sin. He acknowledged that God was right all along and asked Moses to plead with the Lord to stop the storm, so the Israelites could leave. When the storm ceased, Pharaoh sinned again and held back the Israelites from departing.

God 7 and the Egyptian god’s 0

In life, we all experience suffering, but what sets us apart is our faith. The strength of our faith is determined by our dedication to the word of God.

Prayer: Lord, today I want to pray for this woman reading this right now. You know us by our names and if we call Your name, You will answer. Psalm 139:13 “For You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. Amen.
