Day 4 – Butterfly

“Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 TPT

One would think that the metamorphosis from a caterpillar into a butterfly is complete when the caterpillar dies in its green casket, turns into caterpillar soup and nature refashions the sludge into an entirely new insect – the butterfly. But, the metamorphosis isn’t complete until the butterfly breaks out of the chrysalis, starts behaving like a butterfly, and completely leaves all remnants of its caterpillar life behind.

But some of us get stuck or choose to stay in the comfortable husk of the chrysalis. The problem is we’re not thinking the right way. Our metamorphosis to become an entirely new person means that what we’ve learned through our growing season should be reflected in our new person as we reflect God’s glory. We can be gracious monarch butterflies who emerge out of the chrysalis and just sit on the branch still thinking and acting like caterpillars. We’re not working to strengthen our wings by applying God’s Word and being obedient to His commands to leave creepy-crawly ways behind.

You, my friend, are beautifully created in the image of our Father and inwardly refashioned into an entirely new person through Christ Jesus. You are the beautiful butterfly breaking free for the world to see you are different, unique and a daughter of the King.

Prayer: Beautiful Creator, so many times we are ready to fly, but are too afraid to spread our wings. We might have transformed, but somehow try to crawl back into the chrysalis or even return to be a caterpillar. Whatever season I might find myself in, I pray Holy Spirit that You would guide me through it and remind me that because I am enfolded in Christ, I am an entirely new person. The old has vanished and because of You, Jesus, I am fresh and new. Amen.
