Day 15 – Character map of Joseph

“Then Pharoah said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.” Genesis 41:39-40 NLT

Perhaps you can identify with one or more of Joseph’s hardships. He was betrayed and deserted by his family, exposed to sexual temptation and punished for doing what was right. He endured long imprisonment where he was forgotten by those he selflessly helped. As we read about the man Joseph, we learn that his positive response transformed each setback into a step forward. I love this anonymous quote which reminds me so much of Joseph, “Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.” He didn’t spend much time asking why things happened, and those who met Joseph were aware that God was with him wherever he went and set his hands to. Lovely one, a small step towards Jesus Christ in obedience might be the biggest step you need.

Strengths and accomplishments

He rose to power from being a slave in Egypt to be exactly where God needed him to be to save the patriarch of the nation of Israel. He was known for his personal integrity and a man of spiritual sensitivity.

Weaknesses and mistakes

Joseph learned a hard lesson from his youthful pride which caused friction with his brothers.

Life lessons from Joseph’s story

What matters is not so much the events or circumstances of life but our response to them. With God’s help and guidance, any situation can be used for good – even if others intend it for evil.

Share with us what Joseph’s story means to you.

Prayer: Father, thank You for sharing with us the man Joseph and that we can learn from him that Your plan, regardless of our thoughts and situations, will ultimately prevail for the greater good of Your Kingdom. Help me to stay positive in dire situations whilst holding on to You. Amen.
