Day 257 – Acts: Peter’s ministry
“But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Acts 3:6 NLT
Read Acts 1:1 to Acts 12:25
After the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Peter preached boldly and performed many miracles. His actions demonstrate vividly the source and effects of Christian faith and power. Because of the Holy Spirit, God’s people were empowered so they could accomplish their tasks. I cannot think for a moment that these tasks were easy. They were up against their own people (the Jews) and the pagan empire of Rome, and not having a Bible to read and scripture to follow. They relied completely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The church did not start or grow by its own power or enthusiasm. The disciples were empowered by God’s Holy Spirit. He is the promised Advocate and Guide sent when Jesus went to heaven. His work demonstrates that Christianity was supernatural. Thus, the church became more Holy Spirit-conscious than problem-conscious. By faith, any believer can claim the Holy Spirit’s power to do Christ’s work.
Prayer: Father, may we be bold like Peter and share Your Word without hesitation or fearing the consequences it may bring. Holy Spirit, as you empowered the disciples, empower us too through your strength, courage, wisdom, and insight to accomplish our work. Amen.
