Day 2 – Caterpillar

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey it, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.” James 1:22-24

From the tiny butterfly egg hatches a caterpillar. The job of the caterpillar is to eat and eat and eat to grow. Through the growth cycle, the caterpillar can grow 100 times its size and shed about 4 to 5 times. All the food eaten is stored during this growth process to be used later as an adult.

When we made the all-important choice to be transformed by Jesus Christ our Saviour, we became like these tiny caterpillars. Our job is to eat and eat and eat as much of the Word as to grow in knowledge and later use the wisdom gained as we mature in our Christlike walk. But as James states, it’s not just listening, but doing what the Word says which is the only way we truly grow into maturity.

When we look in the mirror, nothing of our physical appearance is transformed. You’ll still see the crow’s feet wrinkles around your eyes and the freckles will still be there. The metamorphosis starts within your mind – your thought process. This is where true growth transpires into a Christlike transformation.

Prayer: Beautiful Creator, thank You that we can feed on Your Word like tiny caterpillars taking in as much of You as we possibly can. I pray that You will expand our spiritual diet so that we can learn more and more to use it as wisdom as our minds are metamorphosed from world-thinking into Christlike thinking. Amen.
