Day 2 – War Education

“These are the nations that the Lord left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan. He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle.” Judges 3:1-2 NLT
Israel should have been living the dream in the promised land of Canaan. It is strange to think that God would intentionally leave enemies after bringing His nation thus far. Surely, after everything Israel fought through to gain the land, He would let them live in peace? Because in this land of milk and honey there were enemies allowed; even with this God had a plan. He knew that if all the enemies were removed completely, the generations to follow would not be able to learn the art of warfare. If you have no experience in something, you would most probably be too afraid to take it on.
Intentionally, already in the days of Judges, God made provision for our war education to gain experience and know-how to fight against these selected enemies left in the land. (We will take an in-depth look at each one in the following days).
Friend, God allows enemies in your life too. Not to hurt you and not to defeat you, but to teach you the art of warfare because you are part of the generation that followed Israel. Though we do not want the enemies in our lives, we can view these opportunities as war education and allow God to teach us how to fight against our enemy and use the testimony of our experiences to teach others too.
Prayer: Father, we do not always understand why there are certain challenges we have to face. Teach us during this devotional that some of these challenges are allowed in our life to teach us how to warfare and for us to gain experience to be warriors for our generation. Thank You that we have the peace to know that You are with us at all times. Amen.
